Soho loft living

A little more interior porn for you today — today I'm sharing the super cool space of A & N, who live in a unique Soho loft. Ah, those ceiling heights and windows! They have some seriously fabulous artwork too. I'm always curious about other NYC apartments, so thanks to A & N for letting me peek into their space and share it.

Can I move in?

During my quick jaunt in Stockholm, I had the great pleasure of staying in Louise's beautiful apartment which was in a prime location (that is, near the best coffee shops and boutiques!). Although Louise and I had never met, she really floored me with her hospitality. I can't say thank you enough to her and her boyfriend for letting me take over the place for a night.

How could I resist taking some photos and sharing them here (with permission of course :))! I absolutely loved the lofty attic bedroom with the round windows — so freaking cool. As you'll see below, clearly she and her boyfriend have impeccable taste.

Amazing, no?

Gothenburg, Sweden

I just returned from Mikkel Vang's workshop in Gothenburg, Sweden produced by Ritchie Ace Camps. I can't remember how I came across Mikkel's work but I remember I was still in corporate life, and finding his website opened my eyes to the whole word of this beautiful editorial food/lifestyle photography. When you're working in a cubicle 9-5 and making slides and writing reports, you really have no idea that there's this world out there, and that there are jobs like prop stylists and food stylists and so on. I was fascinated and completely inspired from that moment. Over the last few years, whenever I needed a boost of inspiration, I pulled up Mikkel's site. When I saw he was teaching a workshop, I thought about for a full two seconds before I got right on board.

Mikkel is incredibly charming, candid, and just all around brilliant. I am looking forward to getting back to my shoots and really trying to step it up. No excuses, as he would say.

I have a lot more thoughts but for now, I wanted to share the "portrait of Gothenburg" I created during our time there. We were sent on assignment to create a travel story of Gothenburg in our eyes, and then to present five spreads to the other workshop attendees. It was absolutely amazing to see how different everyone's perspective was and how everyone's style manifested in their shots. Editing down is challenging and there were a few photos that I liked but just didn't fit with my story, so I had to scrap them. Here are the five I presented:

I can see how difficult it is to be a travel photographer. Nothing's ever perfect. There's always some darn construction sign in the way of a beautiful street, or the light is too harsh or ugly, or it's raining, or you miss the split second when a group of people are in the perfect candid moment, or... the list goes on. You just have to make it work (and try not to get a viral infection like I did in the process :[).

More to come. And some scenes from Stockholm as well!

More crazy pants

I don't know what's drawing me to crazy printed pants recently, but I couldn't help picking up a second pair. I definitely feel very "business-on-the-top-party-on-the-bottom" with this outfit. I've also been wearing this jacket non-stop this season — it ties together any outfit and the slinky material slouches perfectly.

I'm heading to Sweden this week and try as I may to get in a blog post, I know how bad I am at blogging while traveling, so please do follow along on Instagram!

Blanca Monrós Gómez

When Blanca contacted me to potentially shoot some of her jewelry in little vignettes around her studio, I nearly spit out my coffee. I had long admired and loved her work! In fact, I gifted myself the dainty stacking ring for my birthday last year (and I never take that thing off!). Needless to say, I was excited to work with her. The icing on the cake was having Amy Merrick doing flowers for the shoot. Here's a peek at what we shot.

No-fuss outfit

I've always admired the well-curated collages other bloggers put together, whether it's of an outfit or home goods, or whatever. I thought I'd try something similar, except I'd take a photo of items that I actually own on a white seamless. The problem is that I don't have a large enough white background, so this required some Photoshopping (just don't look too closely ;)). And don't mind how worn these jeans look... they are my go-to these days. I'm not exactly innovative when it comes to style, so don't expect anything revolutionary here — just an outfit I've been reaching for often this month!
